CENTRAL MUDMINNOW Umbra limi (Kirkland, 1841)
DISTRIBUTION AND ABUNDANCE: Introduced. In Massachusetts, central
mudminnow have been found in only a few locations near the
Connecticut River between Hatfield and Longmeadow. The
introduction of this species to Massachusetts most likely resulted
from the release of laboratory specimens from the University of
Massachusetts, Amherst during the mid-1960's. The exact date of
the introduction is unknown, but the first specimens were taken in
the wild in 1975.
