CENTRAL MUDMINNOW Umbra limi (Kirkland, 1841)

DISTRIBUTION AND ABUNDANCE: Introduced. In Massachusetts, central mudminnow have been found in only a few locations near the Connecticut River between Hatfield and Longmeadow. The introduction of this species to Massachusetts most likely resulted from the release of laboratory specimens from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst during the mid-1960's. The exact date of the introduction is unknown, but the first specimens were taken in the wild in 1975.
