The Marine Invertebrates department houses the MCZ's collections of extant echinoderms, bryozoans, brachiopods, and urochordates. The collection is type-rich and mainly composed of historic specimens from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The echinoderm collection is one of the largest in the world, containing more than 200,000 specimen lots.
Recent and ongoing projects include databasing the collection, rehousing all fluid-preserved specimens, and assessing the collections' storage needs for current and future curation.
In addition to supervising the collections, Professor Robert Woollacott maintains an active research laboratory and teaching program. Please visit the Woollacott lab for more information.
