Karsten
Hartel has been at the MCZ since 1975 where he has been instrumental in more
than tripling the size of the MCZ Ichthyology Collection. This primarilary due
to the NSF supported transfer of the collections from the Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institution to the MCZ.
He
and two co-authors (D. B. Halliwell and A.E. Launer) have produced a manuscript
on the Inland Fishes of Massachusetts published by the Massachusetts
Audubon society in the summer of 2000. An electronic version of a annotated
checklist and keys are available on the WWW.
Mr.
Hartel has collected fishes for the MCZ from North, Central and South America
and has participated in thirteen oceanic expeditions to various parts of the
Atlantic, Indian, Pacific, Southern oceans.
He
has also been active in curation research and was one of the developers of the
American Society of Ichtyologists and Herpetologists' Curation
Newsletter.
