Bird migration at continental scales: Insights from a new era of radar aeroecology

Remote sensing tools are facilitating a new understanding of animal migration. Recent advances have made it possible to harness weather surveillance radars as massive ecological sensor networks, revealing the movements of billions of birds, bats, and insects across the globe. I will explore new insights in our understanding of bird migration, from forecasting avian movements to the dramatic effects of light pollution.
