## The Chicxulub Impact and Terminal Cretaceous Mass Extinction Event

**David A. Kring**
Principal Scientist
Lunar and Planetary Institute

Dr. Kring will briefly review the discovery of the Chicxulub impact crater and how he linked that impact event to the mass extinction that upended the evolutionary path of life at the end of the Cretaceous. Then, using the geologic details of that impact’s location, illustrate the environmental calamity that followed on local, regional, and global scales.
