 Congratulations to MCZ Faculty-Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology [Stephanie Pierce](https://projects.iq.harvard.edu/spierce/home) and postdoc Peter Bishop, awarded the [2024 Star-Friedman Challenge for Promising Scientific Research](https://research.fas.harvard.edu/star-friedman-challenge-scientific-research) for their project, "Biodiversity collapse and recovery at the end of the world: Using East Gondwana's fossil record to understand Earth's greatest mass extinction."

 The Star-Friedman Challenge provides seed funding for novel research in the physical or social sciences, with an emphasis on new directions that might not otherwise be supported through traditional funding channels.
