He received his B.S. and M.S. from Seoul National University and his Ph.D. from Purdue University, where he worked with Prof. J. Andrew DeWoody on the conservation genomics of non-model vertebrates. His research has used whole-genome data and landscape pangenomic approaches to investigate genomic diversity, population structure, and adaptive variation, with a broader goal of improving how genomic information is incorporated into conservation decision-making. As a HUCE Fellow at Harvard, Jong Yoon works with Profs. Scott Edwards and Jeannine Cavender-Bares to investigate the genomic basis of climate adaptation in birds. His current research focuses on understanding how populations vary in their adaptive potential under changing environments and on developing ways to incorporate this information into conservation frameworks. More broadly, he is interested in connecting evolutionary genomics with conservation practice to better predict species' vulnerability and resilience to environmental change.
